Oh hi guysss.
I was just wondering how many of you have heard of/recall/know of Leiji Matsumoto?
He's one of the first prominent manga-ka that appeared in Japan; sort of like Osamu Tezuka. His artwork still retains a lot of its older charm.
To fill you in, he's done a lot of interrelated works since the 1970s. He usually uses the same characters and ties them together in various methods and incarnations. Captain Harlock, Meeme, Queen Emeraldas, Tochiro Ooyama, Maetel, Tetsuro Hoshino (I believe it's Hoshino; its been years since I've watched that movie), Queen Metallia/Promethium, etc.
Some of his works include:
- Galaxy Express 999 (manga, tv series, two feature-length anime films and several OAV type deals)
- Space Pirate Captain Harlock (manga, tv series aired in Japan 1978-1979)
- Arcadia of my Youth (feature-length anime film from 1980s)
- Endless Road SSX (sequel to AOMY)
- Queen Emeraldas (manga and 4-episode OAV)
- Queen Millenia (tv series from the 80s)
- Space Cruiser Yamato (he did the character design for the famous anime that was to become Star Blazers in the USofA; sometime in the 70s/80s)
- Harlock Saga (anime based on one of Richard Wagner's operas; 90s)
- Maetel Legeld + Space Symphony Maetel
- Cosmowarrior Zero
- Space Pirate Captain Herlock (Endless Odyssey)
- Daft Punk music videos (he did the animation for the music videos to their album "Discovery"; it was later turned into an OAV entitled Interstella 5555)
- Gun Frontier (wild west style anime starring Harlock and Tochiro)
As you can see, he's an extremely prolific man~ so, how many of you are familiar with him besides Calico?! :D
