So, it seems that the current member card system is very unfair. With people on hiatus, including two "indefinite" hiatuses, people can't master member card sets! While, yes, it was intended to be hard, this just seems a little cruel (in my personal opinion) but I wanted to hear the feedback from the rest of the community. :3
So, instead of having to collect member cards 1-20, I propose that, to master a member card set, one only needs 20 cards to master a set in lieu of collecting 1-20, 21-40 and so on.
Of course things would need to be documented a little better, perhaps those of us who are extremely anal (*raises hand) will be sad to see the numbers mixed up, but it just seems like it would be a tad better in the long run.
(Although if I were a graphics person, I would offer to remake them without the numbers, but I'm not and I'm sure no one else really wants to, sooo. XD)
Anyway! What do you guys think? Do you like the current system for some reason? Or would you prefer to go by card count instead of card order? Let me know what you think, especially if you think you have a better idea! :3

I've already mastered all three, so it doesn't really affect me much, but I voted to change it up for the new people. The cards are always changing anyway, so remaking ~60 cards shouldn't be that much of an issue for people. Without the numbers, then it won't matter.
I like your idea of sticking the first 20 you get into 'set one' for your mastery.
The only issue I see is if someone in the first 20 you get quits before you make it. Do you drop back? Do you keep the cards once they've been traded regardless if a member quits? There are some issues to be determined.
Also, I'll be honest, I never logged when I traded member cards (always traded though, fair and square), but you would probably need to log your trades and when/if you removed one due to a quit.

Er, I don't quite get what you're saying. Would it be like "hey have I have 20 random member cards, yay mastery!" instead of "hey I have member cards 1-20, woo"
I just know right now it's kind of annoying to always be keeping up with the cards changing and stuff, so I usually just don't bother.

Yeah, that's what she's saying. Basically, it would be like it is at most other tcgs; you collect 20 member cards and you've mastered a set. Period. I voted yes, because it would give members less trouble. If you had a card from someone who quit in your 20, then it would still count. Their card just wouldn't be active anymore. You know? XD

Honestly, I think I've seen one, MAYBE, two masteries for Member Cards from members who didn't prejoin. I joined SCMR right after the grand opening, and I can't get two cards (Xestrix and Qem, ftl) from the first set because they've been on hiatus since, well, just about when I started playing seriously in early May. And look at Sets 2 and 3--how many of those people do you still see around? XD
edit;; Also, no one will ever be able to master Set 1, if they haven't already, with this current system. (: Calico and Mysty are both on indefinite hiatus.

I'm the odd one out that voted to keep the system XD I have to say, even if I agree completely with the fact that it's pretty much impossible to master the sets, I find kinda exciting the idea of them being so hard to master =)
I dunno, in other TCGs I never even bother collecting member cards, since it's so random and just having a certain amount of them makes you master it, I lose interest and don't even care about getting them.
It's also why I made them numbered in my own TCG =3
Buuuuuuuuuut....... Maybe that's just me XD

Well, yeah, I suppose I enjoy doing it too. But I get member cards for the count rather than masteries, but I AM tired of staring at two blank spaces.
Maybe if someone goes on hiatus, they basically give up the right to hold a member card? Unless they posted in Shiro's thread of course... Or hm... *doesn't know* But I want those spaces filled! >< I'm sure others do too.

I like that idea Britti! That if someone goes on hiatus they "lose" their member card... If they decide to come back from the hiatus they would have to get a new one. It's not so bad, right? And it would let us master the sets (as long as there are enough new members =P)

I personally don't like the fact that I can't master sets because I haven't been around as long as a lot of people have.. Some people are just MIA.. not on hiatus, but never coming around.. and their card is taking up a number which prevents me from mastering sets. Perhaps if the people who haven't posted about going on hiatus and who haven't showed up for a month or two.. should just be replaced by a new member?
Plus.. for the last set, there isn't 20! How can someone master that? If we got rid of the gaps and people who don't come around anymore.. and lose the numbers, I think it'd be easier. Plus, what's up with the blank spots? Why don't we just take the ones from set 4 and put them in the blank spots?
But on the other hand, I just collect member cards to collect them.. I'm not too concerned about mastering them.

I don't think it's fair to take someone's member card just for a hiatus. But that hiatus should have a limit. Like after one month, you're on a 'long hiatus' and then you lose your card.
Like, I may put myself on a brief hiatus when I have my baby, because I may not be able to keep up for a few weeks and I wouldn't want to lose my member card for that, when I've had it forever and would definitely be returning.
However, once it's been a month (or two or more) the person may never return. Another one who's been on forever is Nyla and I think she's also set one. Infinite hiatus's honestly probably shouldn't be allowed. I mean, if you're going to be inactive for six plus months, what's the point?

I agree with Kajouka. Perhaps there should be a time limit on hiatus?

I don't think anyone is really very concerned over OMG!! masteries but rather just how...unfair it is. XD;
As for hiatuses, I don't know, Kaj. It's really not up to me, considering I don't make Member Cards, but if it was my complete decision, I could see myself telling the person on hiatus if you're not sure whether you'll be gone a month, put it on the member card exchange or be prepared to lose it.
But that's really not my decision. x:

Agree with Kaj on that, from a point on in a hiatus it could be considered a long hiatus or something like that =)

I've been around in this game since the beginning of it this time around, and I've still never managed to master any member card sets. I'm three cards from getting set one, and I doubt I'll ever see those cards.
So, I am not adverse to the idea of making it a 'collect x number of member cards to master a set'. Perhaps we can still keep the sets of cards, and a small extra prize is given if you collect cards 1-20, 21-40, etc, so the member cards still have numbers. I have a preference to numerical member cards, as it makes it very easy to organize them.
As for losing your member card because you've taken too long a hiatus... that's not very nice at all. Take it from a girl who has lost her member card once... I was pissed when I found out I'd lost my spot in set one because my life kicked me in the head and I took a long (unannounced) hiatus. Also, what does that do for those of us who have those member cards? I have 66 member cards in my collection right now, of which only 45 are worth anything. I'd really hate to see that number of 'worthless' member cards grow further.
